Welcome Back to School 2020-2021

 August 3, 2020

Dear Cold Spring Parents:

I am very pleased to share the accompanying Welcome Back to School Video outlining our August 18, 2020 Remote Learning start to the school year.  I am also providing a link to our Remote/Distance Learning Plan.  Under the current Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (SBCPHD) directives, the video and the Remote/Distance Learning Plan outline the essential information you will need for the start of this academic year.

I want to reiterate that we continue to plan for in-person learning. We are pursuing a waiver from the SBCPHD directive mandating remote/distance learning. Our primary objective is to re-enter to school and provide in-person learning. We believe we can safely achieve this by maintaining small class size/cohorts and outdoor learning spaces. We continue to plan for both Remote/Distance Learning and an In-Person start to the school year in the event we receive the waiver. I will keep you informed of our progress in securing this waiver and re-entering school.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our Governing Board of Directors (Jen Miller, Gregg Peterson, Mike Marino, Leslie Kneafsey, and Eric Schiller) for their support through this challenging time. I also want to thank the school staff and the families that have reached out to me to offer support and encouragement. It is a testament to our community’s resilience that we remain focused on the individual needs of every child.

Please review the Welcome Back to School Video and Remote/Distance Learning Plan. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Dr. Amy Alzina
Superintendent
